Analysis Report
on China's Natural Gas Market 2006
Published: April 21st 2007
Introduction
At the end of 2006, accumulative proved geological reserves
of natural gas nationwide were 5500 billion cubic meters and
economic recoverable reserves of natural gas were 2400 billion
cubic meters. In Xinjiang 1290 billion cubic meters of
geological reserves of natural gas has been proved, which ranks
No.1 in China.
Economic recoverable reserves refers to value obtained from
proved petroleum economic recoverable reserves explored
deducting accumulative output in a country or company, and it
can show the actual economic profits which may be earned by the
country or company in the future under certain economic and
technological conditions. China once made significant amendment
to the category of reserves of petroleum and natural gas in
2004. The amendment categorized proved technical recoverable
reserves and economic recoverable reserves apart from the
traditional proved geological reserves which have been retained.
The output of natural gas in China was 4.995*billion m3,
increasing by 0.91 billion m3, up 22%. The output of natural gas
of PetroChina was 3.667*billionm3, accounting for 73.4% of
national natural gas output. In the gas districts, the output of
Sichuan gas field was the greatest, over 1.4*billionm3,
accounting for 28% of national natural gas output;thanks to the
increasing market sale along the route of gas transport from
west area to east area and the increasing supply to Shanjing gas
transportation pipeline, the output of natural gas in Tarim
district increased rapidly, from 1.33*1E9m3 to 5.67*1E9m3,
rising more than 3 times.
